The Job Experience of Nurse Midwives

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine and identify the nature and structure of the job experience of nurse midwives.
Methods: A phenomenological methodology was used for the study. Six nurse midwife in the open birthing centers participated in the study. Collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi¡¯s method.
Results: 5 theme clusters were extracted from 10 themes. The 5 theme clusters of the job experience of nurse midwives in birth center were : 1) Regained happy childbirth, 2) The beginning of genuine childbirth care, 3) Enduring difficulties of standing alone, 4) Keeping borders as a midwife, 5) Living with midwife, not a assistant at a birth.
Conclusion: Based on the results, Institutional complement will be needed to guarantee nurse midwives¡¯ autonomy in their work with the reestablishment of the standards through the efforts and evaluations to increase their capabilities as nurse midwives.
