The Job Experience of Nurse Midwives

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine and identify the nature and structure of the job experience of nurse midwives.
Methods: A phenomenological methodology was used for the study. Six nurse midwife in the open birthing centers participated in the study. Collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s method.
Results: 5 theme clusters were extracted from 10 themes. The 5 theme clusters of the job experience of nurse midwives in birth center were : 1) Regained happy childbirth, 2) The beginning of genuine childbirth care, 3) Enduring difficulties of standing alone, 4) Keeping borders as a midwife, 5) Living with midwife, not a assistant at a birth.
Conclusion: Based on the results, Institutional complement will be needed to guarantee nurse midwives’ autonomy in their work with the reestablishment of the standards through the efforts and evaluations to increase their capabilities as nurse midwives.
